DiggUp Tapes first Cassingles Boxset
I’ve recently been reminiscing on the summer days in which DiggUp Tapes was forming. It was a hot Carolina day, where we all met at a pool to cool off. Nathan Price and Brian Corum were there flowing with ideas on how to capture the music that was happening throughout the Triangle. This is the music I see live every weekend, I listen to on my stereo, and the music that I am lucky to hear in production stage off someone’s computer or on stage at a local venue. Because of the atmosphere of supporting artists, this music is constantly changing and being renewed. This music is an expression of today’s culture here in the Triangle, which is a sound and experience that is unique from any other city, despite our globalized world.
I am ecstatic about the DiggUp Taps first Cassingles Boxset, a document of North Carolina’s current underground music landscape. What makes this boxset so great is that it juxtaposes many bands with roots in NC together on one compilation to capture the sounds of the area.
The bands include: Arbor Myst, Birds of Avalon, Embarrassing Fruits, Fat Camp, Gross Ghost, Lonnie Walker, Motor Skills, NAPS, Snails, Veelee, Whatever Brains, and Yardwork.
On February 10th and 11th, DiggUp Tapes has their Release Party at Kings Barcade, and will feature many bands from the Cassingles Boxset. It is a must see, because nothing beats reality!

NAPS
NAPS is the hottest new band that is coming out of the Triangle. And, when I say hottest, I mean it; basically, every musician in the band could be a model. The band has a new indy sound that will become a revolution. The sound is a sweet mix of hardcore instrumentals and the soft spoken voice of lead artist D Mike. If you have not picked up their new tape release, you will need to pick it up quickly. And, if you have not seen them live, jump to it, before all shows are impossible to get tickets too.

AHPeele Traffic Jam on Saturday
AHPeele Traffic Jam in Raleigh this weekend!!! This is a flea market type-of-thing, where artists bring their crafts, and other cool people bring their yard sale items. I also hear there will be food and music.

Raleigh Institute of Contemporary Art
The Raleigh Institute of Contemporary Art (RICA) is modeled after the Arts Students League of New York, which is based on an atelier school concept: art is taught and skills developed through immersion in the practices of drawing, painting and other arts. Our instructors are prominent working artists, whose methods of instruction emphasize visual thinking and building artistic skills. The RICA class format allows students to learn at their own pace, incorporating their own ideas and goals. During each six week session, the students will create their own art project under instructor’s guidance and assistance. Raleigh State Capitol, Circa 1880's
Found this on Smithshady's Flickr. Mike Smith writes "This was the second of two shots I attempted for the Raleigh Group's recent photo challenge, and likely the start of a new personal project for me. This is a look into Raleigh's past, back to the late 1880's. The original photo, Capitol from the West with Ox Cart in Front came fromt the Albert Barden Collection which is part of the North Carolina State Archives."
